What regrets would you have if you died tomorrow? PDF Print E-mail

We know that this seems slightly off topic for a personal finance site but stay with us on this and we’ll explain.

Last Saturday morning we were off to a Rotary function. I was driving with Adrian as a passenger and my parents in the back seats. It was a hire car and I looked at the dash to increase the airflow since my passenger window had started to steam up. The car wandered slightly on to the dirt on the side of the road and I straightened the car, but then the back end fish tailed out and I hit the brakes. The car went into a spin and crashed into some trees, rolling onto the driver’s side. I screamed “No!” as I saw what was about to happen.

Miraculously (and I don’t use that word often) we were all okay. I had visions of killing my entire family just before we hit the trees. The trees were actually what saved us. They were strong enough to stop us from rolling down a steep embankment, but not too big to puncture the windows and injure us. I called the police and ambulance with my mobile (cell) phone.

A couple in a passing car and the Police helped us out, with the Ambulance officers checking that we were okay. We also had the State Emergency Services and the Country Fire Service attend the accident.

To everyone that helped us THANK YOU.

We are all okay except for a few bruises and a broken thumb nail. For the rest of the day I kept asking Adrian if it was true that we all got out alive. The Police told us (and I have been back to the crash site myself) that if I had rolled the car anywhere else then the result would have been very different due to the steep embankments.

Now almost dying – trust me this was genuine fear that I had injured or killed my entire family, tends to focus the mind. It sorts out what is and isn’t important.

I know that there will be some BIG changes taking place, although I don’t know what they all are yet.

I feel that I have been given a second chance….

When I was asking Adrian if we had died what regrets would he have and he answered “None”. I thought about the question and my answer would have been the same (apart from the accident - I feel that I have more to do here).

You see I tell those that mean most to me how much I love them (even more so during the last couple of days), and I have a business that I love. I love to teach and connect with people, whether it’s through the internet, phone, through speaking engagements or one to one.

Now the majority of people won’t have this simple a wake-up call. Most people are still waiting for the mythical “Someday”. Well we want to share our good luck with everyone.

You see life goes by so quickly – ask anyone over 45 and they will tell you this. The only place you can start to live the life that you want is right now, where you are with what you have. You can start now and to help you along, and to share our luck with everyone we have reduced the price of our Successful Personal Finance course by 40% for subscribers to our website.

This is not a sales gimmick. We are genuinely grateful to be alive and we want to share our gratitude.

So I will leave you with the question of the title - what regrets would you have if you died tomorrow? If not living your life fully and passionately is on the list then it’s time to for a change.

Landmark Forum PDF Print E-mail

This is a cost effective way to transform your life by attending a weekend course (usually 3 days) in a city near you. This course transformed my life and it can do the same for you.

Why do I mention the cost first? Because a friend was trying to get me to go to several different personal development courses and most of them seemed to cost a lot of money, and had thousands of people attending them. That wasn't for me. As I started speaking to friends about self improvement courses one person mentioned the Landmark Forum. I had never heard of it. She told me how she used to be shy, quiet and didn't really like herself very much. That description simply didn't fit the beautiful self assured woman that I knew. The course had also cured her marital problems. I went along to a local guest evening and then signed up for the course in London, UK (the courses are actually international).

The first thing I remember about the course was the room. I found out later that there was about 90 people there, with a central stage and 3 microphones. Microphones! I wasn't about to get up there and talk. In my mind I was already imagining some sort of Jerry Springer show. Nothing could have been further from that! I was very skeptical that it would do anything especially when they told me all I had to do was sit and listen all weekend and I'd get it. I didn't even have to get up to the microphone!

Did the Landmark Forum transform my life? It has certainly given me some tools to transform the way I look at things. If you read some of the mindset articles on this site you'll learn that context is everything, so tranforming the way that you look at things actually does transform your life. I know longer argue with my Mum. I can easily tell my family and friends that I love them. I'm still married and before the Landmark forum I wouldn't have placed a bet that we'd still be together. My husband was so impressed that he dud the course too, and so have several of my friends and family. I did the full Curriculam for Living but you can do the Landmark Forum and stop there if you want to.

Something that amazed me long after I'd been to the Landmark Forum was that in a group of people I can often tell who has attended the course. I've been on an internet marketing course and there was group of nine of us, mostly strangers chatting at a break and someone mentioned Landmark Education. All nine of us had attended the Landmark Forum. And lastly but not least some of the business people I most admire have participated in the Landmark Forum.

For further information or to book into a course see here .

I recommend this course to ALL my family and friends. I don't care how successful you are at the moment in your life this will take you up another level.

ERS Review July 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Firstly I have to say that I was surprised that I wasn’t the only one from Australia. There were actually three of us there and several people from Europe too.

Now I’m going to do this review without giving too much away since you may decide to do the course yourself one day and I wouldn’t want to spoil any surprises!

The course is called ‘Experience the Reality of Success’ because you actually experience the reality of being successful on the course. I won’t go into detail but yes I did manifest on the course. Within the room there were different levels of manifestation – some big, some small but David kept assuring us that if you can manifest $1 then you can manifest $1,000,000 – size doesn’t matter to the Universe.

Did I find out anything about myself? Yes I did. I remembered making decisions as a child that I’m still living by today several decades later. Some were to cover up my shyness, my feelings of not belonging, of not being good enough. Those decisions were still controlling my reality so many years later and the fact that they were no longer true didn’t alter the fact that I was still making decisions from that basis.

So has anything shifted since I did the course? That’s a tough question because some things that seemed so clear on the course are no longer as clear when you get back to ‘reality’. However they do have a follow up conference call where you can submit questions beforehand, mentoring courses, and a one-to-one follow up call from one of the coaches too.

I am certainly more aware of how am I making decisions and some of them are changing because of that. As some of you may know for many years my profession has been as an RPG programmer and although I’m good at it and it pays well, I don’t actually find it satisfying. So I have already told the company that I work with that this will be my last contract with them. Is that scary? Yes but in a good way. I learnt some years ago that I am not my profession (for some of you that may be obvious but it wasn’t to me back then). I love educating and coaching others and maybe my path lies that way, as yet as I’m still unclear on that.

When I have manifested (I should say intentionally since we are always manifesting whether we realise it or not), both on the course and since then it has always been when I have given up the act of being strong and independent. It’s been times when I have shown people that I am vulnerable that surprising things have happened. Maybe because my act has been ‘I’m a strong, independent woman’ for so long that people feel that couldn’t offer me things, and now that is changing.

I met some amazing people on the course, and I’m still in touch with an incredible group of women – the other parts of the 7 magic sisters. I am truly grateful that they were there with me on the course and they enabled me to get that lessons that I learnt.

There were two evenings of manifestation for our group and the first night we took it all very seriously and although there were some manifestations it was hard work. On the second evening it was completely different. I cannot remember when I’ve had so much fun! I did things in public that I’ve never done before – I bet that’s got your curious hasn’t it but I won’t say any more!

The speakers that were on the course were amazing. I had been receiving Ali Brown’s (the Ezine Queen) newsletters before the event but hearing her talk was incredible. Her life has changed so much in such a short period of time and she is so good at what she does. Dr Kirk Prine taught us how to breathe and some exercises and Donny Lobree played some beautiful violin music that he made up on the spot. On the whole I don’t like classical music at all but Donny’s composition was breath taking. He also brought along some jewellery from his mentor. The jewellery was beautiful and it called out to people. I know how strange that may sound but I saw one piece and had to buy it. When I found out that the gemstones meant I knew it was meant for me. Amethyst gives spirituality and strength, garnet for health and passion, opal triplet for victory over past pain, red spinel releasing fear of the future, rhodolite garnet for sweet passion, all set in a design with wings signifying freedom. You can see a picture of my gemstone pendant (The Princess of Coins)and other designs at Crystal Expansion . Melanie Benson Strick from Success Connections was also there explaining how to streamline and outsource parts of your business so that you do the parts of the business that you enjoy and are best suited for.

So in conclusion would I recommend the course? Yes I would. There are people there who go back year after year since every time they learn something new and get more from it. I would also recommend David Neagle’s four teleseminar series 'The Art of Success' that you can get by free registration on his site. Again by listening to that over and over you get more and more from it.

Part 12: The Daily Plan PDF Print E-mail
Written by Karen Leslie
Monday, 11 August 2008 19:00

So many successful people told me about this that I had to give it a try and found that it worked! At the end of every day, take a few minutes to plan the next day. This is when things are fresh in your mind and you know what you need to accomplishment and if anything is left over that day.

Now when I say plan I mean make your to-do list and prioritise what is important to you. Include personal things that are important to you as well as work. If you have meetings or calls to make think about the outcomes you want to receive as well. Put the plan in writing or on your calendar (however you keep your to-do list).

The next morning review your plan and see if any adjustments are needed.

I have found that this method means that I have a clear vision of what I want to receive that day. Without this plan I found that I was reacting to emails that had come in overnight rather than thinking about what I needed to do that day.

Now I know that some people don’t like making daily plans because they never finish everything that’s on the list. Well I have news for you – you don’t have to finish the entire list, that’s why you prioritise what is important to you.

Have you heard of the 80/20 rules? It was discovered in 1897 by Vilfredo Pareto when he found that 80% of the wealth was held by 20% of the people. The 80/20 rule applies to other areas as well and it applies to your list. If you have 10 items on your list 2 of the items will equal the other 8 of the items combined so those are the 2 items that you make your top priority! Now if you think you can’t get all the items on the list completed you know which items to complete to receive the most benefit.

Try this for a few days and I know that you’ll see an increase in productivity. We all have the same number of hours in a day and yet some of us achieve much more in that time. Time is most important asset we have – once it’s gone we cannot replace it so make sure you use yours to the best of your ability!

Part 11: Why context is everything PDF Print E-mail
Written by Karen Leslie
Friday, 08 August 2008 19:00

When I first heard at a personal development seminar that context was everything I had no idea what that meant. To be honest I didn’t even know the difference between content and context.

Context – a set of circumstances or events that surround a particular situation or event.

It helped me to think of context and content as a bowl holding apples. The content is the apples whereas the context is the bowl. So if we are looking at green apples through a clear bowl we see green apples. I know this isn’t rocket science. However what colour are the green apples if the bowl is red? Okay maybe that’s a bit techy but the green apples no longer appear green. The colour of the bowl influences the colour of the apples.

Context is everything because if you always had a red bowl you would never know that apples could be green.

In a similar way if the context of your life is set a certain way then everything you see will be influenced by that context.

Here’s a real world example….

I love my Mum but we always used to argue like crazy. Maybe some of you know how that feels? She was always telling me what to do and I was left wondering why she didn’t trust me to do things. My context was that my Mum didn’t trust me to do things right without her help. My Mum loves me and has a lot more experience than I do and so she liked to point out things that could go wrong before they happened. It wasn’t a matter of trust at all – she just didn’t want me making the mistakes that she did. Most parents operate like that. When we sat down and talked about it we saw each others point of view and the arguments stopped. She leaves me to make some mistakes (that’s a part of growing up) and I understand that any advice is because she loves me and not because she doesn’t trust me.

So many issues arise because situations are only seen from one context.

Another example is a guy I met at a property investor taster evening. Adrian and I used to run them for a property investment seminar company in the UK and often afterwards we would have a cup of tea and answer questions. This particular guy was convinced that the course wouldn’t work for him even though it worked for loads of others and there was a money back guarantee. As we got to talking he thought this about all areas of his life! Things that worked for other people simply wouldn’t work for him. I asked him what if he and a friend placed similar bets on a horse that won. Surely both of them would win? He said no because something would be found wrong with his ticket so he would still lose. I was amazed. He was living his life in the context of everything would go wrong and of course he was usually right. We kept in touch for a while because I knew that personal development courses could help him transform his beliefs, if he wanted to transform them. The course I was thinking of in particular was the Landmark Forum run by Landmark Education. It was the first time that it really hit home that context is everything.

So what context is running your life right now?

Think objectively about how you react in situations, or even how you are thinking about a situation before it’s even happened. It may surprise you about certain assumptions you are making BEFORE the event has even happened.

You have the power to transform your context and so transform your life.
